For our clients, Marc and Petra, we have designed a contemporary glass extension to a Grade II listed house in rural Nottinghamshire. The design adds a dining space and opens up the kitchen to the rear gardens. Sitting below the garden level, the new spaces will open into a sensitively landscaped kitchen garden.
The current kitchen is small with very little space for gathering or dining. The addition is relatively modest, but will completely transform the way in which the clients welcome guests and enjoy the garden together. The existing Hall is built in a beautiful Blue Lias stone that is local to the area and we will endeavour to reclaim and reuse as much of it as possible on the solid masonry elements of the extension.
The clean, refined detailing of the sleek flat roof and tall vertical lines of the glass doors contrast with the existing timber sash windows. We collaborated with the conservation officers at Newark and Sherwood Council to agree the approach for the design and ensure a smooth planning process.
